Do you have unsightly discoloration your teeth? You’re not alone, as we frequently see patients interested in obtaining a brighter smile. Fortunately, we have multiple treatment options to whiten teeth and help patients enjoy a smile they feel proud to show the world.
A Brighter Smile in Two Hours
We can often remove stains in about one to two hours with our in-office procedure. After placing a protective covering over the lips and gums, we apply a powerful bleaching gel to the surface of your teeth. A curing light is then used to activate the bleaching gel, which then breaks up and lifts stains from the surface of the teeth. In a single appointment, you can obtain a noticeably brighter smile.
Erasing Stains from Home
For those interested in brightening smiles from home, we can also provide professional teeth whitening. We send patients home with a set of plastic trays and a bleaching gel. The patients then fill the trays with gel and wear them for between 30 minutes to 45 minuets each day, over the course of one to two weeks. The treatment can brighten teeth by multiple shades! You can also keep the remaining gel and trays for touch-ups further down the road.
Masking Permanent Discoloration
While the systems we have discussed can treat surface stains, known as extrinsic discoloration, they may not be enough to address severe intrinsic discoloration. These stains form below the outer enamel, often caused by injury, fluorosis, or exposure to tetracycline at a young age. However, we can mask these stains with dental bonding, using the same composite resin as metal-free fillings. In addition, a lifelike dental veneer can be created that fits over the front and sides of the tooth, reshaping the tooth and masking permanent teeth stains.
